Children & Young People’s Workforce L3

The Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People’s Workforce is a competence based qualification; it assesses the skills, knowledge and understanding a learner has within a work placement.

This qualification is suitable for those who work within the children and young people’s workforce in a variety of settings, including crèches & nurseries, residential care settings, youth clubs, playgroup, pre-schools and schools providing care to children aged from 0- 19.

Choose your study route depending on your interest or job role including working with babies, children with disabilities and special educational needs, child minding, and nursery nurse. Level 3, guides, assess and confirms competence in the development of knowledge and skills relating to Early Learning and Childcare, Social Care and the Learning Development and Support Services workforce.

Level 3 is for staff working in a more senior role. The qualification is flexible in structure enabling the organisation and individual to choose the optional units which best suit their work situation and job role.

This course, as are all NVQs, is assessor based; meaning your work is marked against The National Occupational Standards. These standards define the competencies, knowledge and understanding needed in a given occupation, and identifies outcomes that can be assessed by your assigned assessor.

The Assessment Process

Course Content

The Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce is designed with generic mandatory units, plus mandatory units for a specific work role pathway; Early Learning and Childcare, Children’s Social Care or Learning Development Support Services (LDSS); plus a selection of units from a bank of Optional units.

To achieve this qualification, learners must achieve a total of 65 credits made up from the eleven mandatory units (Group A), plus one mandatory pathway (one from a choice of Group B, C or D), plus a selection of optional units (Group E):

• 27 credits must be completed from MANDATORY UNITS; and,

• Minimum 4 credits must come from MANDATORY PATHWAY UNIT

• Minimum 34 credits must come from OPTIONAL UNITS

• SHC33 ~ Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings. (2 credits, 8 guided learning hours)

• SHC34 ~ Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings. (1 credit, 5 guided learning hours)

• CYP Core 3.1 ~ Understand child and young person development
(4 credits, 30 guided learning hours)

• CYP Core 3.2 ~ Promote Child and Young Person Development
(3 credits, 25 guided learning hours)

• CYP Core 3.3 ~ Understand how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people. (3 credits, 25 guided learning hours)

• CYP Core 3.4 ~ Support children and young people’s health and safety
(2 credits, 15 guided learning hours)

• CYP Core 3.5 ~ Develop positive relationships with children, young people and others involved in their care. (1 credit, 8 guided learning hours)

• CYP Core 3.6 ~ Working together for the benefit of children and young people. (2 credits, 15 guided learning hours)

• CYP Core 3.7 ~ Understand how to support positive outcomes for children and young people. (3 credits, 25 guided learning hours)

The remaining credits come from a varied range of OPTIONAL UNITS chosen with your assessor and workplace.
